Chadian parliamentary elections took place on December 29, 2024, alongside regional/local elections. All 188 seats in the National Assembly were up for election.
These will be the first parliamentary elections in Chad since June of 2011 after repeated delays. The elections were originally scheduled for June of 2015, to November 2018, to May of 2019, then finally to December 29, 2024.
Chad's largest opposition party, Les Transformateurs, as well as 15 other opposition parties, have stated their intentions to boycott this election, citing concerns of a "corrupt" electoral register, and a lack of guarantee that the election will be free and fair.
In total, 95 seats are needed for a majority in the National Assembly. Our current model indicates that the Patriotic Salvation Movement (MPS) has a >99% chance of winning the majority.
Provisional results were published on January 12, and it was announced the ruling Patrotic Salvation Movement had won 124 seats. The full results of this election will be released on sometime in late January.
The minimum voting age in Chad is 18. All Chadian citizens are eligible to participate, as per the Electoral Code. There are an estiamted 8,237,768 registered voters in Chad.
In consituencies with one seat, a first-past-the-post voting system is used. In multi-member constituencies, a party winning over 50% of the vote wins all the seats. If no party wins over 50% of the vote, seats are allocated proportionally using the largest remainders method.
