Virginia State Senate District 32 Special Election Results - January 7, 2025

Description

A special election for the 32nd State Senate District in Virginia will take place on January 7, following incumbent Suhas Subramanyam (Democratic)'s resignation after being elected to Virginia's 10th Congressional District.

Democrats currently have a small 21-19 edge in the State Senate in Virginia. Should an upset occur in this election, it would give Republican Lieutenant Governor Winsome Sears the ability to break ties for her party. Assuming a lack of future special elections, this contest will determine who holds the majority in the State Senate until at least 2027.

The race will be between Kannan Srinivasan (Democratic) and Tumay Harding (Republican). Srinivasan is currently a member of the Virginia House of Delegates, representing District 26, which is also seeing a special election due to his resignation to run for this seat. Harding is a business owner and teacher. Our current model indicates Kanna Srinivasan has a >90% chance of winning the election. Of course, as this is just a model, it is possible for an upset to occur.
